SFL Betting Preview: Week Five

AFTER THE international break, we are back with some league action to take our minds off Scotland’s risible performances. There was some Ramsdens Cup action last weekend with Partick Thistle, Arbroath and Cowdenbeath all making it through to the semi-finals. We are the only bookmaker to price up the event and, with Rangers still in the betting, there is some massive value on the remaining teams – Thistle look the most likely team to cause an upset and can be backed at 4/1.

Turning our attention to this Saturday’s matches, Raith Rovers were very poor against Thistle in the live BBC Alba match, but I am going to give them another chance against Airdrie United at odds of 4/5. Brian Graham did not get a sniff against the Partick defence but he should get more room in this match and can fire Rovers to victory.

Next up in Division Two is Stranraer to beat Albion Rovers at 6/4. They had a fantastic result against Ayr United two weeks ago and, although Rovers also had a good win, I think the value is with the away team. Both sides are fancied to finish bottom, so this could be a proverbial “six-pointer”.

Finally, in Division Three, I am taking a punt on Elgin against Peterhead in the Highland derby – I thought Elgin performed brilliantly at Rangers. On the other hand, although Peterhead have started the season well, this could be one of their hardest away games. 9/4 looks a tasty price.

This week’s McBookie treble: wins for Raith Rovers, Stranraer and Elgin City give £136.25 profit for a £10 stake.

If Tell Him He's Pelé were a boy band, they would probably be the much-missed One True Voice, both in terms of appearance and musical output.
