Episode 50: David Weatherston (Part One)

At one point, the thought of David Weatherston appearing on a Pelé Podcast was a pipe dream. The former Queen’s Park, St Johnstone, Queen of the South and Falkirk forward moved to Norway in 2016 and so arranging a face-to-face interview with him seemed impossible. But, during a week-long trip to Scotland for a friend’s wedding, we were able to talk to him about the ups and downs of his career for almost five hours.

In the first of a five-part interview, David begins by looking back on his nine-year spell at Queen’s Park. He begins by speaking about joining the club as an 11 year old and his journey through the youth ranks to the first team. He remembers the tough love of Kenny Brannigan, the guidance of Billy Stark, playing in a youthful side with rich potential, the League Cup win over Aberdeen and the sensational play-off victory over East Fife.

It is a familiar topic to regular listeners of the Pelé Podcast but it is always worth hearing again.

David is in tremendous form throughout the interview. Sometimes funny, sometimes moving, always insightful, this is a treat from start to finish.

If Tell Him He's Pelé were a boy band, they would probably be the much-missed One True Voice, both in terms of appearance and musical output.
