Episode 43: Gerry McLauchlan (Part One)

We are all bald under out hair; we are all Gerry McLauchlan.

The big centre-back is probably one of the most popular players in the lower leagues and a genuine cult hero wherever he’s been. Speaking with Craig G Telfer, Gerry begins this two-part Pelé Podcast interview by discussing how Queen’s Park’s League 2 campaign is shaping up before jumping back to his teenage years and discussing how he made his way in the game.

Gerry talks about his days on YTS forms with Hamilton Academical and his eventual disillusion at New Douglas Park, before reflecting on his move to the hurly-burly of the Third Division with Stranraer. He looks back on a successful season with the Blues and how his time at Stair Park honed his skills as a defender and earned him a move back to full-time football with Queen of the South.

The player then discusses a frustrating two years at Palmerston, including his struggles with fitness and his loan spells at Montrose and Arbroath.

If Tell Him He's Pelé were a boy band, they would probably be the much-missed One True Voice, both in terms of appearance and musical output.
