Well, what did you make of that then? When we last heard from John Gemmell, he had left Montrose after a miserable campaign and he appeared to be heading towards the doldrums – the Gable Endies were his fifth club in as many seasons. But, after a long conversation with Paul Martin, he was convinced to return to Albion Rovers for a second spell; the subsequent five years would be the most successful of his career.
In conversation with Craig G Telfer, John begins part two of his Pelé Podcast by looking back on his second spell at Cliftonhill. He examines working under Martin and their unique relationship, before talking about the celebrated “Crazy Gang” who not only won promotion from the Third Division, but consolidated their status in Division Two the following year.
John moves on to discuss his two years at Stenhousemuir. He looks back at Martyn Corrigan’s management of the club, the team’s famous League Cup win over Kilmarnock, and the infamous episode with Ally McCoist. John then speaks at length about his strained relationship with Scott Booth and the difficulties of playing for a “crazy guy”.
The podcast concludes with a look at the Rovers’ title-winning season of 2014-15 and an analysis of the year’s key moments.
The podcast is an invaluable listen for supporters of the Vers and the Warriors but will no doubt interest fans across Scotland. John is on tremendous form here.
